Nearly every day in 2007, Stef and her friend Casey emailed each other approximately seven multi-paragraph emails that included pop culture-infiltration blueprints, absurd advice for mock “Loveline” episodes, mad libs, and top-five lists. For one particular top-five assignment, Casey asked Stef to name the top five fruits at the “cool” lunch table in Produce School. Both imaginative and easily excited by new ideas, they informally began planning the cast and the first season, and Produce High was born.

Stef wrote the first six episodes for 2007’s Script Frenzy challenge, but it wasn’t until 2012 that she put in a real effort to make Produce High a reality. It first debuted as an animation, with six 15-minute episodes comprising season 1. In 2015, Produce High was revamped into the web comic you see here on HappiMess Media today!

Inspiration for Produce High stems from a love of cartoons and reading too many Sweet Valley High novels (and by “too many,” I mean “every single one of them.” I even went so far to review them all at MARGO RISING, a blog named after a character who wanted to murder the Wakefield twins, much like I wanted to after reading about all their inane shenanigans.)
