#79 – The Long-Lost Brother

This guy looks like a troubled soul/love interest in an episode of Party of Five or something. Ugh, and hands off, LIZ! I can’t stand how she constantly manages to find someone’s life to meddle in. Why do people always let her in their lives? I do not support it.

First off, there’s this sub “plot” concerning Liz volunteering at a woman’s shelter, but it serves mostly as a PSA and a story device to get Liz to weasel her way into the problems of Sara Eastborne, a chick who’s all upset because her fraternal twin brother Tim is coming home after spending some time in reform school for drinking, doing drugs, and stealing a car. Hot! He’s automatically more interesting than 99.9% of the population that attends SVH, but Sara is uber pissed at and embarrassed of him because of his shady dealings, which caused her to lose all her friends at her last school. So she wants nothing to do with him and rebuffs his every effort to make peace with her and forces him to keep his history a secret. I’m sensing a pattern here.

Sara has a boyfriend, Bob Hillman, who is so like Gordon What’s-His-Fuck that I don’t know why they didn’t just reuse Gordon in the first place. She’s all worried that he’ll judge her for her brother’s spotty record because his family is so upstanding. Sara doesn’t even tell her BFF Amanda Hayes (who the hell are these people?) what Tim is like, or where he’s been or anything in fear of losing their friendship like in the days of yore, so imagine her horror when Amanda and Tim start cozying up to each other! Things only get worse when Tim is suspected of stealing Jerry “Crunch” McAllister’s hideous purple van. What’s Crunch still doing running about? Shouldn’t he be in jail? It technically IS still the same year he put a precious Wakefield twin in a coma. Speaking of a Wakefield twin, Liz just happens to be at an A.A. meeting (taking notes for the damn Oracle!), where she meets Tim, and she and Todd befriend Tim and become his alibi when Tim is suspect. Blah blah whatever.

I’m really sailing through this one because all it is is Sara bitching or crying re: Tim, or Liz talking earnestly to Tim about Sara or Sara about Tim. It’s so BORING, man.

Bob dumps Sara, Amanda avoids Sara and Tim because she feels so betrayed, and Tim gets cleared of all charges, but not before he gets so sick of dealing with Sara’s frosty ‘tude that he decides to fly back to Connecticut to live with their dad. But wait! Sara has a change of heart and chases him down in the airport (a sign of a real commitment!) to beg him to stay. He does, and he and Amanda fall further in love, and Bob tries to pick up Sara again but she ain’t havin’ it. Good for you, girl.

The other side “plot” is that Jessica is sick of her Miss Teen Sweet Valley duties of passing out cheese at malls so she cons Liz into doing it so she can go on a date. Ho hum.
